What speeds do I need for online gaming?

Having figured out how to get gaming Internet in rural areas through Nomad Internet, you need to consider your Internet speed requirements. The kind of speeds needed depends on the platform accessed. Some games are notorious for consuming a sizeable chunk of your bandwidth while others go gentle on you.

For a single-player only, the following average speeds might be able to serve you just fine.

  • Download speed - 3 megabytes per second
  • Upload speed – 1 megabyte per second

As you move to a more competitive front, you need to up your Internet speeds. At this point, speeds of 15-25 Mbps per player can serve you fine. Going for faster speeds guarantees faster downloads and load times.

Sometimes, determining the exact speeds that a certain game needs can be a bit challenging. Luckily, most online games include an advisory of the recommended Internet speeds. Check the official website for such information.

If a game advises that 10 Mbps ensures ample performance, that does not mean you need to install exactly 10 Mbps. Instead, you can choose to double these speeds in order to cater to the needs of other users in the house.  Remember, besides just gaming, others could be using the rural wireless Internet connection for other activities.

Are you saying Nomad users would have to buy/pay extra for their bandwidth speed beyond their plan??
